Dreams...........

Few are blessed with the gift of dreaming

The art of slipping in to that which is not yet, but may well be;

Dream! For that which cannot be imagined in one’s mind’s eye

Can never come to be through wisdoms sight.

Give your dreams the wind behind their wings

And let them lead you to places, your sane mind would normally shy

An idea conceived is the stuff that dreams are made of

So dream your dream, however far fetching it might seem

Give flight to your imagination

And let yourself soar high on the flight of dreams eye

Reach for the stars and the moon in the night sky

And ride on the confidence that dreams were not meant to die.

Follow your dreams, no matter if they seem to others unwise

It doesn’t matter their color or their size

What matters though is that you never cut them down to size

For the only thing that dampens dreams is compromise.

Whats in a name I say...........

A hungry king in a forest lost his way
Benda Kalooru a dish of beans was all a poor woman could serve him that day
So was born Bangaluru, which then became Bangalore
Centuries later a mad rush to the so called roots
And we are trying once more to say Bangaluru dudes!
What’s in a name I say????

Hoping to restore our dignity
Victoria Terminus to Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus was changed
The past cannot be wiped like a slate
It is the past that fashions our today
What then is the need to change the name?
What’s in a name I say?

The same old people walking the same old streets
The same old Queens necklace, the same crowded beach
The same old city that makes or breaks your dreams
The same old yummy vada pav filled with grease
It was Bombay then, it is Mumbai now
What’s in a name I say??

He was born Mohandas, son of Karamchand Gandhi
Great were his deeds that earned him his glory
Some called him Mahatma, others called him Bapuji
The man they referred to was, no man ordinary
He brought about change and that gave him many names
What’s in a name I say???

A name does not define who you are or what you will be
It does not change your fate or make you important be
It’s just a game for the people who play with names
Perhaps, their only claim to fame??
So stop it at once this name game
What’s in a name I say??

Why people??? Why do you drink???

He was poor and covered with grime
A passing young lady offered him a dime
I watched as he traded it for a glass divine
And I asked him,
Why man? Why didn’t you dine?
Why did you prefer the wine?

He was young at seventeen
Waiting just to be seen
A passing friend offered to buy him a drink
And in the bar, he was in a wink.
And I asked him,
Why boy? Why do you drink?
Why do you wish your dreams to sink?

She was thirty and single
Caught her at the party, trying hard to mingle.
The next I saw her was at the bar,
Downing her gin with a lime so sour.
And I asked her,
Why woman?? Why do you drink?
Why should you choose to look anything but pink?

He could have anything money could buy
A life for which others would willingly die
Yet he sank on the couch with a drink and a sigh!
And I asked him,
Why mister?? Why do you drink?
Why do you wish to take yourself to the edge of the brink?

I caught her at the railway picking up rags
The story of her life made her shoulders sag
The weary feet, she was forced to drag
And I asked her,
Why lady? Why do you drink??
Why do you let yourself further sink????

She got out of her limousine decked up in fur.
The paparazzi took pictures all in a blur
But the moment it was time for her to lose the award
She opened her purse and drank her reward.
And I asked her,
Why beauty? Why do you drink??
Despite being covered in mink??

I watched him come out of the church dressed in white
To me, he was the clergy always in the right!
As he slipped in to the dark on the day that was Sabbath
He reached out for the bottle tucked in his habit
And I asked myself
Why did he of all people have to drink?

Im just a man...Simply a man.....

I’M JUST A MAN: SIMPLY A MAN…….

Handsome men wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not a dude or built to fit Arnolds size.
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling them lies.
I say,
I’m just a man, simply a man.
Yeah, that’s me.
It’s the passion in my eyes,
And the flash of my pearly whites.
It’s in the breath of my chest,
And in my zest for life.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a woman,
The little ladies just push and squeeze,
Just to get their little piece.
Like fireflies they flitter
Wanting to impress with their glitter
I say,
It’s in the tightness of my hips
And the pride in my stride
The thrust of my manhood,
And the power in my thighs,
I’m a man, simply a man.
Yeah, that’s me.

Women wonder to themselves,
What they see in me.

They try so much,
But they can’ touch,
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the timbre of my voice,
The toughness of my stand,
That leaves others no choice,
But to follow my brand
I’m a man, simply a man
Yeah, that’s me.

Now you understand,
Just why my head’s held high.
Why the maidens swoon and their mothers sigh,
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud,
I say, I’m a man,
I’m just that, simply a man.
Yeah, that’s me.
And I say,
It’s in the wobble of my Adams apple.
The calluses on my palms,
That makes women want to sample
The strength of my arms.
‘Cause, I’m a man, simply a man
Yeah that’s me.

*** "Phenomenal woman" was written by Maya Angelou ......It is what inspired me to write "I'm just a man....: Simply a man". Please take the time to read Phenomenal Woman..........a wonderful poem that captures the spirit and the many identities of a woman:  http://www.feminist.com/resources/artspeech/insp/maya.htm

Holi Hai!!!

Hey guys! Holi hai!!!!!

Finally it is here, the festival of color
To herald the advent of spring and summer
Tis the season to ring out the old and ring in the new
To get rid of the cobwebs and all the mildew.

The trees are swaying and the birds are singing
The water has finally stopped freezing
So get ready to shake your leg to some hindi singing
Today is the day for dancing and drinking!

So go ahead all you people go dress in white
To take on all the colors that will make your mood bright
Red and yellow, and blue and green
A dash of each will make you feel like a teen.

Fill the balloons and the pitchkaris with water
If it’s colored so much the better.
Catch your friend with the spray when he is looking under
And get in to the mood of Holi wonder.

It’s the single day of the year when you don’t ponder
You just wake up and to the color wander
A little of the color and a little of Bhang
Then away you are in to the world of song.

I say it is the season of spring so come on and celebrate
Take joy in the land that is now ready to burst after the long wait.
It is the festival that heralds joy and hope
It is the festival that puts the cold finally on hold.

So let yourself go and shake a leg
Coz its Holi and its everybody’s day
To celebrate your freedom and lament no more.
So dear friends holi hai!!!!!bolo aur thoda hi sahi par bhang zaroor pee lo phir Kya holi hai bolo!!!

This is I

I !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I fear my creativity
For it compels me to explore the unknown

I fear my dreams
For they make me question my comfort

I fear my heart
For it shows no reason when it comes to loving

I fear my faith
For it narrows my vision

I fear my beliefs
Because they make me conform

I fear my knowledge
For it makes me slow to change….

I fear my mind
Coz it makes me question my every move

I fear not anyone, nor anything
I fear just myself.

I, is someone I can’t put aside
I, I have to see every day in the mirror
I, is always watching me
I, is there looking at me each time I make a wrong move
I, tells me I am wrong, before anyone else can
I, keeps me awake when I have silenced other voices of dissent.
I, keeps me knock, knocking on heavens door

I cant get away from I.
I is what makes me, me.
And yet I try to get away from I
Each day in every way possible I try hard not to listen to I
I fear that if I listen , I will have to take responsibility for all my actions
Its easier to pass the buck, and blame my fortune

I have to find the courage to believe in I
I is what will get me past all my struggles
If only I would listen , I wouldn’t be looking for answers
I wouldn’t be here trying to figure me……………………………

Each of us is our best judge.

Each of us our best guide.

If we look hard enough and long enough we will find that the answers are all there right there within us.

Is this what love is??

Is this what love is???

The waves of the sea they know just one way of life
That they must roll out to reach out to the shore,
Before they roll in to melt into the sea once more.
It must hurt to lose ones identity ant yet
Day after day they continue to do so
For in losing their identity alone, may they become whole!
Is this what love is ???

The wax ,it embraces the wick in all totality
Knowing fully well that the wick will burn itself and in doing so burn the wax too
Yet the wax chooses to burn and die a slow death
For in total surrender alone can one taste the bittersweet taste of love
For in giving of oneself alone will one find fulfilling love
Is this what love is???

The moth flits around the light
Round and round in circles in the night
What is it about the light that draws in the moth
Knowing fully well that death is the price
Why does the moth still let go of the safety of the darkness of the night
To embrace the light to deaths delight.
Is this what love is ?????

The drops of rain swiftly make their descent
To be lost in the heart of the earth mingling with it to give out its unique scent.
To give life they must give of themselves first
It is the story of each of Gods creation
Surrender is the key that opens and closes loves heart
And each must play his part.
Is this what love is????

Without his memories every breath I take seems like a crime
I will that all his pain I could take away and make all mine
Life with out loving him is no life at all
I feel like a ship without an anchor, like an apple without its core
Yet in my pain alone must I find relief
If I can’t have him, at least I have the bittersweet pain - memories of having him once but no more……….
Is this what love is???

From the beginning of time they have done just this
They know no other life, nor another way
They must forever give regardless of whether they receive
For in giving one offers ones’ identity
And in losing ones identity alone
Will one become whole and partake of divinity….
Love is what love does, what love gives, what love sacrifices…..
This is what love is!!!!!!!!!
